Yurii Klymenko

A Crimean local historian, collector, and keeper of the material and spiritual heritage of Poltava settlers in the village of Novomykolaivka on the Kerch Peninsula, and the founder of the Novomykolaivka Local History Museum.

Overview

Yurii Andriiovych Klymenko is a descendant of the Poltava family of the Klymenkos, which in the mid-19th century, after the Crimean War, moved from the Poltava region to the Kerch Peninsula and founded the village of Novomykolaivka.

Yurii Andriiovych has devoted his life to preserving the memory of his family and the Ukrainian history of the Kerch area. On the grounds of his own homestead in Novomykolaivka he has preserved an authentic Poltava house from the 19th century with a unique ethnographic collection (folk clothing, dishes, a loom, millstones, a butter churn, and more). He hospitably and free of charge conducts tours for visitors, acquainting them with the history of the Ukrainian settlement.

His passion for family history grew into the creation of the Novomykolaivka Local History Museum, where exhibits on the history of the village and the Kerch Peninsula are gathered.
