Overview

Akhtem Chiygoz is one of the leaders of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People. He was arrested by the russian occupying authorities in January 2015 for participating in a peaceful rally in support of Ukraine's territorial integrity held on February 26, 2014, near the building of the Verkhovna Rada of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea in Simferopol.

In a speech at a round table on February 15, 2019, he emphasized the indigenous status of the Crimean Tatar people in Ukraine, the principled refusal of russian citizenship, and the unity of the Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar peoples in the struggle against russian aggression.
