Sevastopol Railway Hub and Crimean Railway Branches

A component of Crimean infrastructure projects related to the expansion of the peninsula's railway network, primarily the Sevastopol railway hub, and the servicing of Black Sea Fleet facilities and the fishing industry.

Overview

The laying of the "Inkerman 2 – Sevastopol 2" railway section in Crimea (1951) was driven by the strategic objective of accelerating the reconstruction of Sevastopol. Under the design, this section became an integral part of the Sevastopol railway hub and was intended to deliver freight and construction materials to the new Sevastopol 2 station (Kulykove Pole area according to the master plan). Establishing this transport link created conditions for mass transportation and the maneuvering of special-purpose rolling stock, meeting the needs of nearby Black Sea Fleet bases and facilities.

In 1969, the design of the "Inkerman 2 – Kamyshova Bay" railway branch won first place in the All-Union review competition as the highest-quality construction project, thanks to the originality of engineering solutions in mountainous terrain with rock cuts (created using blasting methods) and the presence of engineering structures. The railway line was laid primarily to service the Sevastopol Oceanic Fishing Base and to transport fresh-frozen fish and cannery products from the fishing port in Kamyshova Bay.

The second phase of construction was supplemented by a comprehensive design assignment to expand the Sevastopol Sea Fishing Port: siding tracks to the oil depot, the "Krymhidrobud" construction base, retrofitting the Inkerman 2 station and the Pervomaisky passing loop with electrical interlocking devices, and equipping the Inkerman 2 – Kamyshova Bay branch with permanent signaling, centralization, and block (SCB) interlocking devices.
