Dzhemil Karikov¶
Dzhemil Karikov is an outstanding Crimean Tatar composer, folklorist, multi-instrumentalist, musicologist, Honored Art Worker of Ukraine, and researcher and reconstructor of Crimean Tatar classical music of the Khanate period.
Overview¶
Dzhemil Karikov made a substantial contribution to the revival of Crimean Tatar instrumental classical and palace music of the Crimean Khanate era, which had been forgotten for over 200 years. He is the editor-compiler of the fundamental collection "Crimean Tatar Instrumental Music of the Khanate Period" (Simferopol: "Dolia", 2007), which returned to the cultural space the works of the rulers of the Gerai dynasty and traditional instrumental forms.
