State Archives of the Kherson Oblast (DAHO)

The State Archives of the Kherson Oblast (DAHO) is the leading archival institution of Southern Ukraine, preserving unique document collections on the history of the Kherson Governorate, particularly from the period of the Eastern (Crimean) War of 1853–1856.

Overview

The State Archives of the Kherson Oblast preserves rich documentary holdings on the history of Southern Ukraine from the 18th–20th centuries. Of particular value are the fonds of the Kherson Provincial Administration (F. 288), the Kherson Treasury Chamber, the Kherson State Pharmacy (F. 285), the Chancellery of the Kherson Civil Governor (F. 1), and the Novorossiysk and Bessarabian Governor-General. These sources record the course of the Eastern (Crimean) War of 1853–1856 in the front-line Kherson region, including materials on mobilization, the militia (oplochennia), hospitals, evacuation of institutions, and lists of refugees and wounded soldiers.
