Simferopol Art College named after M. S. Samokysha

The Simferopol Art College named after M. S. Samokysha is one of the oldest art educational institutions of Crimea, founded in 1922 by the outstanding Ukrainian battle painter and academician Mykola Samokysha.

Overview

The institution began its activity in Simferopol after M. Samokysha moved there in 1922, as a private art studio. On the basis of this studio, a state art college was subsequently created, which for many decades remained the main center for the professional training of painters, graphic artists, and designers in the Crimean region.

  • Foundation and reorganization: Created in 1922 in Simferopol by M. Samokysha, who, after the revolutionary events and his life in Yevpatoria, settled in the Crimean capital. The studio was reorganized into a full-fledged art college.
  • Pedagogical school: Mykola Samokysha personally taught at the studio and the college, supporting young talent. Even during the Second World War and the Nazi occupation of Simferopol, the artist, already at an advanced age, continued to teach his students and give them artistic consultations.
  • Naming: The institution was officially named after its founder — the academician Mykola Serhiiovych Samokysha (Samokysha).
