Pavlo Horyanskyi

Pavlo Horyanskyi (1878–1935) was a Ukrainian civic and political figure, educator, head of the Yalta Ukrainian Hromada (1917), head of the Small Rada of the Territorial Ukrainian Rada in Crimea, and consul of the UNR in Crimea (1919).

Overview

Pavlo Horyanskyi was born in 1878 and graduated from the Kyiv Theological Academy. From 1917 he became one of the principal organizers of Ukrainian national life in Yalta and Crimea. He headed the Yalta Ukrainian Hromada and, during the Bolshevik terror at the beginning of 1918, organized elections to the Constituent Assembly of Ukraine on the territory of Crimea.

During the Denikin occupation of the peninsula, he headed the Small Rada (executive committee) of the Territorial Ukrainian Rada in Crimea. In August 1919, at a congress of Ukrainian civic organizations in Sevastopol, he was entrusted with taking upon himself the defense of the interests of Crimean Ukrainians in the capacity of UNR consul in Crimea. In the autumn of 1920 he received the UNR delegation headed by Mykhailo Lytvynenko and Levko Chykalenko in Yalta, informing them about the public mood on the peninsula. He died in 1935.
